Tajikistan has no measles but will vaccinate youngsters.

In Tajikistan, last year there was a sharp increase in the incidence of measles, but this year this disease has not been registered in the country. This was announced by the Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan Jamoliddin Abdullozoda at a press conference on February 10.

According to him, 425 people were infected with infectious measles in 2022, while in 2021 there were only 10 cases of infection with this disease in the country.

Cases of measles were recorded in Dushanbe, in Rasht and Nurabad districts.

“Research by specialists showed that this disease then came to Tajikistan from Russia, as well as from Uzbekistan,” he said. “There were cases of measles type D6 in Tajikistan, which was also detected in the Russian city of Novosibirsk.”
The head of the Ministry of Health recalled that in September last year , a vaccination campaign against measles and chicken pox (chickenpox) was held in Dushanbe, Rasht and Nurabad districts .

Vaccination, according to the plans of the Ministry of Health, is also planned in other regions of the country as the vaccine becomes available.

Measles is an acute infectious viral disease with a very high level of contagiousness, the causative agent of which is the measles virus. It is characterized by high temperature (up to 40.5 ° C), inflammation of the mucous membranes of the oral cavity and upper respiratory tract, conjunctivitis and a characteristic maculopapular rash of the skin, general intoxication.
