Avesta.tj | 02/10/2023 | 13 thousand divorces were registered in Tajikistan in 2022, which is 162 divorces more than a year earlier. This was announced at a press conference by the head of the Committee for Women and Family Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan Khilolbi Kurbonzoda.

“The problem of family divorce exists in all countries. Our Committee, of course, is working in this direction, but let each of us ask ourselves what we have done to prevent the divorce of at least one family,” Khilolbi Kurbonzoda said.

According to her, the reasons for divorce are different – social and economic problems, contradictions and misunderstandings in the family, and others.

Another reason for divorce, according to the Committee on Women and Family Affairs, is the husband’s intention to obtain Russian citizenship.

“We have chosen several districts as pilot ones in Khatlon region, Rasht valley, GBAO. Last year, 804 married couples divorced in Khatlon in order to obtain a second (Russian) citizenship, 103 couples in Rasht, and 31 couples in the Vanj district of GBAO,” Khilolbi Kurbonzoda shared.

“As it turned out, these divorces are fictitious in order to obtain Russian citizenship. In fact, families live together in a Muslim marriage (nikoh), and such fictitious divorces increase the statistics of official divorces,” added the head of the Committee.
