Cambodia relies on Chinese tourists for tourism recovery – Travel And Tour World

Cambodia has placed a lot of hope regarding its tourism retrieval after Chinese tourists slowly started coming back to the Southeast Asian country.

On Tuesday, Air China flight CA745, with around 125 Chinese travelers, arrived at the Phnom Penh International Airport from Beijing. The travelers were greeted warmly by Thong Khon, Cambodia’s Tourism Minister along with Wang Wentian, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia and other representatives.

Khon said that China is among the most vital outbound tourism markets globally, with around 155 million Chinese travelers touring around the world before the pandemic struck.

Khon added that the return of Chinese tourists has provided a lift not only to the tourism segment but also to Cambodia’s economy on the whole.

He stated that this year, they will try to entice around 800,000 to 1 million Chinese tourists in Cambodia. In January, the nation witnessed 25,000 Chinese travelers.

Khon opined that Cambodia is predictable to witness a total of 4 million worldwide tourists this year, which is almost double the number of 2.27 million in 2022.

Before the pandemic, China was the largest foundation for overseas tourists to Cambodia, as per a Ministry of Tourism’s report. In 2019, the kingdom witnessed 2.36 million Chinese tourists, accounting for 35.7 percent of total tourist influxes to the country and making roughly 1.8 billion U.S. dollars in income.
