Kyrgyzstan’s Brown Coal Production Surges in 1HKyrgyzstan’s Coal Production Increases in the First Half of 2023


The volume of brown coal production in Kyrgyzstan from January through June 2023 reached 1.267 million tons, showing a 12.8 percent increase compared to the same period in 2022. In June 2023, the country produced 163,200 tons of brown coal, reflecting a 20.4 percent rise from June 2022.

On the other hand, bituminous coal production in Kyrgyzstan experienced a year-on-year decline of 8 percent in the first half of 2023, falling from 255,200 tons to 248,000 tons. However, there was a 14 percent increase in bituminous coal production in June 2023, with volume rising from 60,700 tons in June 2022 to 69,200 tons.

Overall, the production of both bituminous and brown coal in Kyrgyzstan saw an 8.3 percent increase from January through June 2023. For the year 2022, Kyrgyzstan produced a total of 3.6 million tons of brown and bituminous coal, indicating a 20 percent growth compared to 2021.
